2-layer system in a day
Applying a coating in a poultry house yourself
Coatings play a crucial role in the poultry industry, where hygiene, safety and efficiency are essential. The use of coatings in poultry houses can bring numerous benefits that contribute to animal welfare and overall farm performance. Some key benefits of coatings in poultry houses are outlined below.
First, coatings provide improved hygiene. Poultry houses are susceptible to bacteria, viruses and fungi that can threaten the health of the animals. Coatings can be applied to floors, walls and other surfaces to create a smooth, non-porous surface that can be easily cleaned and disinfected. This minimises the growth and spread of pathogens, resulting in healthier animals and a lower risk of disease outbreaks.
In addition, coatings in poultry houses offer protection against wear and tear. Aggressive poultry feed, humidity and intensive cleaning procedures can quickly damage surfaces. Coatings can provide a protective layer that extends plant life, reduces repair costs and maintains hygiene.
Another key benefit is improved grip and safety. Poultry houses are often slippery because of the moist poultry litter. Applying anti-slip coatings to floors can significantly reduce the risk of slips and falls for both animals and workers.
Finally, coatings in poultry houses contribute to the overall efficiency of the farm. The easy-to-clean surface reduces the time and effort needed to clean the poultry house. Moreover, improved hygiene can lead to better growth and performance of the animals, resulting in higher productivity and profitability for the poultry farm.

How long does it take to apply a coating in a poultry house?
Farmcoat is a two-layer floor coating consisting of a primer and a coating. Four hours after applying the primer, the coating can be applied. So you’ll be finished coating within a day. However, keep in mind that you should clean the substrate thoroughly the day before so that it can dry properly before you start coating. After applying the coating, it should be allowed to dry/cure for 12 hours. This means you will not be able to use the surface for at least a day and a half.
In what colours is the coating available?
Our coatings are offered transparent or in RAL 7001 (grey) as standard. On request and from a minimum total order of 50 kilos, you can choose any RAL or NCS colour.
Does the coating have anti-slip properties?
The coating offers a rough yet smooth finish. If you need an extra anti-slip finish, or even a very coarse anti-slip surface (for cattle to walk on), we can offer this on a customised basis.
How thick is the coating to be applied?
The feed passage coating can be applied in very thick layers. Assume that you will need up to 2 kilos per square metre. For very worn substrates, it has a levelling effect.
Is it easy to apply yourself?
Farmcoat is designed so that it can be easily applied by laymen/inexperienced persons. We supply detailed instructions with every order as standard, clearly describing the steps needed to apply the coating.
