How do you apply an epoxy wall coating yourself?
Easy to apply in a day
Farmcoat Epoxy Wall Coating is very easy to apply yourself in a day. Here we explain how you can easily apply an epoxy wall coating to your workspace, tank room, barn wall or milking pit.
Required materials
- Clean tap water, preferably a high-pressure cleaner
- Sander
- Farmcoat application kit; consisting of a watering can with spray head, mixing paddle (for use on a drill), brushes, rollers, telescopic handle, tape and Farmcoat ADP Cleaner)
- Farmcoat Epoxy Primer
- Farmcoat Epoxy Wall Coating
1. Pretreatment
The preparation process is paramount for a good result. Grease, dirt
(feed residues/dung) and other contaminants should be completely removed from
the substrate. Use high pressure if necessary.
2. Sanding
Sand the surface with a sander. This also lets you sand off any stubborn dirt. For sanding, the following applies for each type of substrate:
- New cementitious substrates should be at least 2 weeks old before applying a coating. These do not need to be sanded provided they are smooth.
- Thoroughly sand down old plastic, paint or coating layers.
- Bare steel objects should be blasted. Previously treated steel objects (with paint or similar) only need sanding.
- Pretreated wood should be well sanded. Wax, grease or oil should be completely removed.
3. Cleaning
Apply Farmcoat ADP Cleaner diluted with water (1 part to 30) to the wall using the watering can with spray head. Brush this in and leave it on the surface for up to 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, spray the substrate clean with tap water. The ADP Cleaner is an acidic cleaner that ensures that all miniscule dirt (invisible to the eye) dissolves.
4. Primer
Make sure the substrate is completely dry before applying primer. You can do this by letting it dry overnight or speeding up the process by using a gas burner. Tape off the substrate where necessary for a good dividing line.
Process Farmcoat Epoxy Primer according to the following description: mix the product before use by adding the B component (hardener) to the A component and mixing it firmly until an even mass is obtained. Then let the product rest for 5 minutes before application. Next, apply the product using a roller or brush.
Let the primer dry for about 4 hours. When the white primer has dried completely transparent, you can move on to the next step: coating!
5. Coating
Mix Farmcoat Epoxy Wall Coating before use by adding the B component (hardener) to the A component and mixing firmly for 2 min. Also mix well along the edges and across the bottom of the tin.
Apply the coating to the wall using a roller or brush as soon as possible, but at least within 1 hour of mixing. Work well wet-on-wet.
6. Drying
After 12 hours of drying, you can start using the floor again.
