What does an epoxy floor coating do for your feeding alley, stable floor or feed kitchen?
Applying a floor coating to an agricultural substrate has become increasingly commonplace in recent years. Agricultural substrates are often made of concrete and become porous and rough over time. A floor coating protects alkaline (cementitious and concrete) substrates.
Applications
An epoxy floor coating is of great value for many different areas in your agricultural business, such as:
- Feed passages
- Stable floors
- Milking pits
- Tank rooms
- Workspaces
- Garages
- Gratings
- Feed kitchens
- Other technical areas
In the above areas, both mechanical (due to machinery) and chemical (due to acids, saliva) stresses are high. Even finely floated concrete will start to wear out within a year.
The benefits
1. Hard-wearing and mechanically resistant
A floor coating is epoxy-based. Once cured, the epoxy joints are rock-solid and wear-resistant. This means you can easily cross the floor with large equipment such as a metal bucket without seriously damaging it. If you drop something heavy, you won’t suffer an instant dent in the floor. The floor can also withstand high pressure.
2. Chemically resistant
The epoxy compounds in our coating also provide a high level of chemical resistance. This is a great advantage for floors in milking parlours, tank rooms and, of course, in feed passages. Chemicals, acidic liquids and saliva eat into the concrete and cause the top layer to wear. In feed passages in particular, this leaves you with a rough surface, and feed can no longer be pushed easily across it. You may even run the risk of a hard layer of feed residue forming, which is a source of bacteria.
3. Easy to clean
The hard and seamless surface of epoxy floor coating also prevents dirt and grime from penetrating. This makes the surface easy to clean with high pressure.

How long does an epoxy floor coating last?
Provided the floor coating is applied correctly and as recommended, it will have a minimum lifespan of 10-15 years. Should any damage occur during this time, it can be easily repaired with a repair kit.
In what colours is the coating available?
Our coatings are offered transparent or in RAL 7001 (grey) as standard. On request, and from a minimum total order of 30 kg, you can choose any RAL colour.
Does the coating have anti-slip properties?
The coating offers a rough yet smooth finish. If you need an extra anti-slip finish, or even a very coarse anti-slip surface (for cattle to walk on), we can offer this on a customised basis.
How thick is the coating to be applied?
The feed passage coating can be applied in very thick layers. Assume that you will need up to 4 kilos per square metre. This corresponds to a 2.5 mm-thick layer. For very worn substrates, it has a levelling effect.
Is it easy to apply yourself?
Farmcoat is designed so that it can be easily applied by laymen/inexperienced persons. We supply detailed instructions with every order as standard, clearly describing the steps needed to apply the coating.
Which accessories do I need?
For anyone who will be coating, we recommend the following accessories:

- 1x handle for large roller (25cm)
- 2x small epoxy roller (10 cm)
- 1x handle for small roller (10 cm)
